Born in Cyprus and raised in Soviet Armenia, I was trained in both sculpture and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts before immigrating to the United States in 1980. It was here that my work took an abrupt shift into the abstract, a style which I have doggedly pursued ever since. As a political painter whose guiding impulse is the belief that love and peace are the primary drivers of the human spirit, and that colors - like tears - have no nationality, I strive to push visual boundaries by forcing the viewer to question their own contribution to the world's dwindling supply of respect and equality
